The arrest
Judas led a crowd armed with swords and clubs and carrying torches and lanterns. The mob included soldiers sent from the Jewish leaders.
Judas had arranged a signal for them; he would kiss the one they were to arrest. This was a traditional greeting.

Jesus didn’t try to run away. Instead, he went forward to meet them and asked who they were looking for.
They told him, ‘Jesus of Nazareth’. When he replied, ‘I am he’ they drew back and fell to the ground!
He pointed out that they didn’t need an armed force to arrest him, he was not leading a rebellion.
Peter fights back
One of Jesus’ disciples, Peter, drew his own sword and attacked the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear.
Instead of joining in the fight, Jesus said, ‘Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?’
He healed the man’s ear and allowed himself to be arrested.

As soon as Judas had kissed Jesus the men arrested him.
After this everyone deserted him and ran away, while Jesus was taken to the high priest to be questioned.

Mark 14:43-50
Just as he was speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders. Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: ‘The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.’
Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, ‘Rabbi!’ and kissed him. The men seized Jesus and arrested him. Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
‘Am I leading a rebellion,’ said Jesus, ‘that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.’
Then everyone deserted him and fled.
